INTERNSHIP IN THE USA

required for all internship programs in the United States agricultural education, spoken English and age up to 32 years ( J1 cultural exchange visitor trainee visa )

COOPERATIVES AND ELEVATORS (c)

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • driving various vehicles (trailers, loaders)

  • operations with hoists and conveyors

  • operations with fertilizer sprayers

  • loading trucks and trucks with grain

  • shipment of packaged products

  • work with the customer base

The working week will be a minimum of 40-45 hours, the scholarship is charged per hour ($ 10 per hour)

 

Overtime is paid at a rate of 1.5 hourly rates, free transport and accommodation

 

The duration of the internship is 9 – 12 months

 

(Upon arrival in America, all interns will take a CDL – Commercial Driver License test, which allows you to drive trucks and other semi-trailers of trucks

 

Accommodation is provided in apartments (only the personal needs of trainees are paid, such as internet, television, etc.

POULTRY FARM (c)

Internship in agriculture on poultry farms

The internship period is 12 months

Main duties

  • for mechanical engineers wishing to work in poultry houses: work with small engines, conveyor belts, chain drives, also partially – general work (see description below)

  • for all trainees, regardless of specialty: raising chicks to adulthood, trimming beaks, vaccinations, transplanting from small cages to large

The scholarship is $ 10 per hour, 55 hours of work per week (there are no overtime charges, all hours worked are paid at the same rate)

 

Accommodation is provided in the apartment free of charge (only the personal needs of the trainees are paid, for example, internet, television, etc.)

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND / OR MECHANIZATION

Scholarship: The minimum scholarship under US law is $ 8 per hour. It can be from 8 to 12 dollars per hour (it does not depend on the type of accommodation – if the scholarship is higher, the cost of food and accommodation will be higher, if the scholarship is smaller, there are other bonuses, such as free internet or transport to the place of practice)

MEAT COWS: farm size: from 50 to 200 (small mixed farms that also grow grain or vegetables, from 200 to 1000+ heads (large farms and ranches) Most farms with beef cows also grow grain

Responsibilities: general care, calving assistance, medical care, castration, branding, artificial insemination, fence construction, equipment repair, field care

GRAINS (MECHANIZATION): farms grow corn, soybeans, sugar beets, potatoes, legumes, etc. Small grain farms grow wheat, barley, oats, and alfalfa

Responsibilities: soil preparation, application of fertilizers and pesticides, sowing, watering, harvesting, maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery, storage of harvested products, transportation of products or seeds

DAIRY FARMS Each farm has a different “emphasis” (milking, feeding, genetics, group health or a combination of these)

Responsibilities: milking, calving assistance, rationing, medical care, feeding, artificial insemination, cleaning, equipment repair

HORSES: all accommodations are specialized (breeding horses, thoroughbred horses, horseback riding)

Responsibilities: foal assistance, general care and feeding, diet preparation, medical care, cleaning, training of horses, preparation of animals for sale, repair and maintenance of equipment

SHEEP: Most farms also grow vegetables or grains.

Responsibilities: general care and feeding, medical care, assistance in lambing, castration, branding, artificial insemination, fence construction, construction work and equipment repair, growing grain or vegetables

PIG FARMS: fattening, farrowing assistance.

Responsibilities: general care and fattening, cleaning, medical care, artificial insemination, castration, construction and repair of equipment, preparation of animals for sale

PLANTING, HORTICULTURE LANDSCAPING

Responsibilities: cultivation, fertilization, water supply, control, weeding, pruning, harvesting, processing, packaging. For placement on farmers’ markets – preparation, packaging and sale of fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products

GREENHOUSES / GARDENS: annual plants / flowers, perennials / flowers, shrubs and trees, some farmers grow fruits and vegetables

Responsibilities: cultivation, fertilization, water supply, control, weeding, pruning, harvesting, processing, packaging

LANDSCAPE: accommodation in small landscape companies or large horticultural centers

Responsibilities: growing trees, shrubs and flowers, laying turf, using small machinery (lawn mowers, tractors, machinery for transporting grass, erection of architectural structures)
